Late last year the USCIS issued a revised I-9 form which is used to verify the identity and employment authorization for individuals hired to work in the US. Beginning January 21, 2017, all employers should only use this form going forward.
The changes include:
- An electronic PDF with prompts for correctly completing the form.
- Drop down lists, calendars and other improvements for accurate completion of the form.
- Additional information requests such as “other last names used”, a specific area for a preparor or translator to sign and a field for any additional information.
- The electronic form will also generate a QR code upon completion and will assist in I-9 audits.
